Yesterday, I logged into my StumbleUpon account, which, having dropped the ball, I never actually use.
Trying to caress my way through the site, I did a simple search for “Alyssa Martino,” hoping to understand if my blog was “registered” or still needed to be.
And what do you know? This article on Ode Magazine‘s Exchange site, appeared.
Now, you may recognize much of this content from a post on The Pen and Paper Chronicles this year; I submitted that post to Ode’s Exchange, but it had to undergo a review process before being posted. I checked back several days in a row, but then gave up, basically assuming it hadn’t made the cut.
Then yesterday, I discovered it indeed had been posted.
And not only did it exist, but it had received 418 hits via the social bookmarking tool. (This is more traffic than I get on my own site!). I also noticed that 12 people had tweeted my article, and 109 shared it on Facebook.
These stats made me happy, but it’s this next bit that made me ecstatic. As a writer, getting reader feedback–whether positive or negative–is always the best feeling. It makes you feel like your words made a difference, made someone think, challenged or evoked emotion within them.
At my Ode Exchange profile, the web manager wrote me a note, saying:
We at Ode want to thank you for your post on the power of words. We added it to the Readers Exchange yesterday, and on our Facebook wall too. It’s generated a lot of conversation, check it out: www.facebook.com/odemag?ref=ts
You’ll have to scroll to May 7, 2010 to view the comments. So, I provided a screenshot here, which you can click to enlarge:
These comments absolutely made my week! Hooray for Ode, StumbleUpon, and for my surprising social media gift
I can’t wait to learn more abut this site.
PS – All StumbleUpon tips are welcome in the comments section. I’m still very much learning…
